The Artist Behind the Labels
If you’ve been lucky enough to actually find any of our bottles on store shelves you may have noticed the vibrant original artwork emblazoned on the labels. These imaginative designs are the creations of Elizabeth Jacobs, a local Cambridge painter and my artistic collaborator on the Enlightenment Ales project.
Liz and I have been working together since 2009, when we both worked as servers at Cambridge Brewing Company. From lightbulb sketches on the back side of coasters to the stunning full sized acrylic on wood paintings that are transformed into our bottle art, Liz is a fundamental part of the artistic experiment that is Enlightenment Ales.
For each new beer I’m creating, Liz and I sit down and discuss the concept and experience at the heart of each beer idea. She then produces her own interpretation of the idea by a creating large format hand painted piece of art. This process of differing interpretations and artistic collaboration are intrinsic to what makes Enlightenment Ales the weird, unique beer and art show that it is.
